The Pukekohe Kip McGrath Education Centre was established in 1999.

Chris graduated from Massey University in 1974 with a Science degree majoring in Zoology followed by a Diploma of Teaching at Christchurch Teachers College. She then taught Science subjects full time at Secondary schools for 3 years.

Chris took time out to raise her young family and then returned to teaching full time, part time at Rosehill College, Papakura. She taught Science, Biology and Chemistry to Year 9 to Year 13 students. In her last 6 years at Rosehill College Chris was Head of the Chemistry Department being responsible for the teaching staff, curriculum development and budget.
