About Us
Welcome to Kip McGrath Pakuranga
....where your child works on their own individualised programme to meet their specific needs guided by a hand-picked, fully qualified New Zealand Curriculum based teacher.
WHO WE ARE
Our names are Lawrence and Debra-Kim Croggon and we opened our Pakuranga Centre in May 2006.
We are delighted to be able to offer programmes to improve confidence and competence for all ages from pre-schoolers right through to university.
Valuing the importance of education and having a genuine interest in helping students to succeed, we are delighted with the results our students achieve and are very proud of our centre and the reputation we have quickly built up for superb tuition in a warm, welcoming environment.
Lawrence is a NZ qualified and registered teacher with postgraduate qualifications in Science and Educational Psychology along with 18 years of experience working with children and young adults in the Health and Education sectors while I have extensive experience in the Primary system working as Teacher Support and hold a Trinity College qualification in TESOL.
Lawrence was born and bred in the Pakuranga/Eastern Beach areas attending Elm Park Primary School, Pakuranga Intermediate and Edgewater College. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to direct his expertise back into his own community.
I have lived in the Bucklands Beach area for the past 25 years with our oldest two children attending Bucklands Beach Primary School, Bucklands Beach Intermediate and Macleans College. We have a preschooler who goes to Bucklands Beach Public Kindergarten.
HOW WE WORK
We are both passionate about our centre and are committed to providing all of our students with the best possible individualised programme to cater for their needs whether it be remedial, consolidation, extension, exam preparation, the need to strengthen work habits and study skills, low self-esteem/self efficacy or lack of enthusiasm to learn.
Your child will work on their own customised programme, at their own level, at their own pace in a non-threatening environment. Because each child is working on their own individual programme fear of failure is removed allowing your child to progress without inhibition and therefore experience success. They are able to gain knowledge and develop skills to bridge their learning gaps or extend their learning and the huge boost in their morale and self-esteem, which comes hand-in-hand with their success, is an added bonus which influences all facets of their lives.
Our centre has a bright, relaxed and supportive feel which our students of all ages enjoy and respond positively to and we have a great team of very dedicated and caring tutors who are all fully qualified teachers with a wealth of experience in the New Zealand Curriculum.
So whether your child is struggling to keep up or bursting to race ahead we can make a real difference.
It is never too late nor too early.
Call us now and find out how we, Pakuranga Kip McGrath, can make a huge difference in your child's life now and help set them up for the future.

COURSES IN DETAIL
PRE-SCHOOL
School can be a strange and scary place for beginners. The transition from pre-school to more formal learning has a significant impact on children. It can affect their interest, their motivation to be at school and their future school success.
Get Ready for School
The Get Ready for School program is a gentle introduction to learning which aids a smooth transition from pre-school to big school. A combination of worksheets, activities, computer games and songs reinforce skills. It ensures that learning is stress-free and fun.
The program develops hand eye co-ordination, computer use, gross motor skills and colour sense. Pre-schoolers finish the program with an increased understanding of sharing, teamwork, listening, and following instructions. Children will learn to write and to recognise their own name. They will also learn the alphabet and count numbers from one to ten.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
Not every student thrives at school. Some experience difficulty in keeping up. Some encounter problems after changing schools, experience an emotional upset or long illnesses which may cause behavioural problems.
Our Accelerated Learning Programs help kids overcome learning obstacles by giving them a much needed boost of confidence. We provide a caring environment that makes learning fun again.
Little Learners
This program is designed for children in their first or second year of school. The program will prepare children for the more formal learning challenges of their second year of school. The academic skills taught include basic reading and comprehension, alphabet, counting, addition and subtraction and number recognition to 100. The program incorporates computer learning in a meaningful, yet fun way. Worksheets and computer drills reinforce concepts, while changing mediums keep the students engaged. In addition to academic skills, the program teaches intellectual skills. These are visual memory, auditory and visual discrimination, auditory sequencing and phonemic awareness. Increasing these abilities will help children not only in their second year of school, but throughout their schooling.
QAX Mathematics (Quest for Answers and Explanations)
The QAX Mathematics program is a flexible computer program suitable for students at any level who wish to improve. A free initial assessment ensures entry into the program at the correct level. A combination of computer work and face to face teaching allows students to learn at their own pace. Students are able to consolidate learning by completing additional activities from home using broadband access.
Literacy for Learners
This program is designed for students who are having difficulty in reading, spelling and comprehension in any grade. A free initial assessment could rule out physical barriers to learning such as hearing and sight problems. The assessment allows programs to be individually tailored and provides a starting point from which to measure progress. Students gain confidence working at their own pace with a combination of face to face teaching and computer drills. Progress is consolidated with weekly homework.
English as a Second Language
This 25 lesson program is designed to assist students who do not speak English as their first language. It will help them keep pace with their schoolwork and also improve their social skills. The course extends the student’s knowledge of both written and spoken English. It covers vocabulary, basic grammar, speaking, reading and writing. Computer activities combined with worksheets allow students to progress at their own pace and learning is consolidated with weekly homework. The course also includes an oral component. Students are encouraged to speak out loud to strengthen their pronunciation – with great results.
Intelligence Development
This computer based program is designed to develop problem solving, evaluation and abstract thinking. Additionally, it develops an increase in verbal and non verbal reasoning improving visual and auditory memory. The program is suitable for students with a reading comprehension from 10 years and up. Students will be tested to ensure they can read and comprehend at this level. The program can be incorporated into other tuition programs.
The development of this program draws upon sound methods of over 30 years of teaching experience. It is designed to allow students to progress at their own pace and has a built-in concentration breaker to ensure maximum engagement. Progress is tracked automatically and a weekly progress report is generated by the program.
Potential benefits of the program include an increased ability to:
Engage in abstract and productive thinking
Retain new knowledge
Judge, understand and reason
Develop practical problem solving skills
SECONDARY SCHOOL
As students approach their senior years of secondary school, the pressure to perform well in exams increases and adds to the stresses of adolescence. Secondary school can be a tough environment for some students and not everyone automatically thrives. Some experience difficulty in keeping up, they experience frustration at not understanding and as a result, can lack hope. Some encounter problems after changing schools, experiencing an emotional upset, or a long illness and may develop behavioural problems. Kip McGrath Education Centres Secondary School Programs are designed to give all secondary students the motivation and confidence to achieve their full potential. Our Accelerated Learning Programs help students overcome learning obstacles by giving them a much needed boost in confidence. We provide a caring environment that makes learning interesting again.
